In 1944, in the midst of the general euphoria about the fiestas and following the initiative of the San Antón Stewardship, to recover the Moors and Christians parades, a group of friends who met in the Eldense Casino agreed to create a comparsa as other acquaintances were doing. There were not many, barely twenty, who sowed the seed that today is the Comparsa de Moros Marroquíes. José Vera Millán, José María Juan Arenas, Manuel Ochoa Gil, Mario Juan, Isidro Aguado Poveda, Manuel Tamayo González, Silvino Martínez García, Emilio Rico Albert, Francisco Ferrer, Pedro Herrero Barceló, Pedro Díaz Burruezo, Enrique Gómez Pérez, José Vidal Alonso, Joaquín Vera Maestre, Eduardo Gras Pascual, Emilio Cabedo Borrás, Julián Llorens Vila, Ángel Sánchez Guarinos and Eloy Villar González were the first to take to the streets in the characteristic outfit of this troupe.
The merit of these young people was to know how to transmit to family and friends their own enthusiasm so that, over the years, we see how the surnames follow one another in captains, flag bearers and comparsistas.
This was the origin of a “comparsa” that currently has about 800 festive people, but not everything was a bed of roses. In 1966 the Comparsa went through a serious crisis that almost led to its disappearance. There were no festeros, or Abanderada or Captain, but the figure of D Eduardo Gras Pascual, who with his granddaughter Begoña and thanks to the generosity of the Comparsa de Moros Realistas, made it possible that although not participate as Comparsa in the parades, the Comparsa was represented, as they paraded with the flag in a place of honor within the Comparsa de Moros Realistas. Thanks to the push of Eduardo Gras and his daughter Emi, along with all their friends, gave a great boost to the Comparsa, which began to grow to what is now.
In 1951, the festive Joaquín Maestre, known as “El Toto”, helped by J. Carbonell, director of the Alcoy Regiment’s music band, composed the piece “Pedro Díaz”, a pasodoble in honour of one of its founders. In the same year of its composition, the pasodoble was premiered by Aspe’s brass band, which is still participating in the parades today. At the front, Captain Pedro Díaz marched with his daughter Angelita as Abanderada. This piece has become the hymn of the Moros Marroquíes group.
Since its founding, our Comparsa always had for their development and coexistence in the holidays, with several quarters, located in premises always provided by members of the board or friends of them, until having enjoyed several years in renting a local in the CL la Purisima, the decision was taken to undertake the purchase and construction of a local itself. On June 1, 1988, the first headquarters were inaugurated, in Placeta de San Agustín nº 16. Due to the important growth of partners that was experienced in subsequent years, it was decided to buy two houses at numbers 17 and 19 of Gonzalo Sempere Street, much larger and suitable to house all the comparsistas. Once its construction was finished, the inauguration of the new premises was held on October 17, 1998, called “LA KÁBILA”.
On October 30, 1998, the group of dulzainas and percussion Abdalá, known as “Colla Abdalá”, was created by members of the comparsa in love with festive music and participating for the first time in the parades of 1999 with our Comparsa. Currently the Colla Abdalá actively collaborates in various events organized by the Comparsa.
In the year 2004, it was developed the creation of a block of parade with official dress, called “Mesnada Marroquí”, which could accommodate those members who then did not participate with any squad and on June 4, 2005, our Mesnada Marroquí, participated for the first time, along with the rest of the Comparsa in the Christian Entrance.
Today the Moroccan Mesnada is formed by about forty people, and participates in virtually all acts of our Comparsa.
In 2009 the current Governing Board organized the first Moroccan Gala to give the importance of the replacement of positions and the distinctions that each year gives the comparsa. The Comparsa also participated for the first time in the Entradica Mora which was held on May 22.
