The Comparsa de Piratas was founded in 1945 by a group of friends, (Pedro Maestre, José Miguel Bañón, Pedro Candelas, Juan Miralles, Pascual Vera Juan, Pascual Vera Rico, Pedro R. Loreno, Ventura Garcia, José Vidal, José Amat Jover, Vicente Valero).
Although it was founded in 1945, its participation in the festivities did not take place until the following year “1946”, and according to the official magazine of 1953 it was included in the Christian side. It is in the year 1948 when it passes to form a part of the Moorish side, remaining in this one until the year 1972 where it is framed definitively in the Christian side where it has remained until today.
The design and manufacture of the official suit was commissioned in Alicante to D. Tomás Valcárcel, counting the same of the following items: old gold shirt (never called D. Tomás comma yellow), black velvet pants, boots with turn all leather split, sash and blue scarf. Later on, changes were made.
At the moment the official suit consists of the following garments:
Yellow shirt, can be male or female format.
Black panilla pants.
Black boots.
Black felt or panilla vest, with the anagram embroidered on the back.
Yellow sash.
From its beginnings the Comparsa did not have an official headquarters, passing through different locations. In November 2001, the current headquarters was acquired in Ricardo León Street, No. 10. After fitting it out, it was inaugurated on January 13, 2002, when José Abellán Navarro became president.
In the workshop D. Tomás Valcárcel also made the flag that represents us in all official acts, being covered by the figure of the flag bearer.
The flag is black, with an embroidered skull and two interlocking bones on one side, and at the foot of the flag, also embroidered, the full name COMPARSA DE PIRATAS, all in silver.
Since its foundation, it has always been represented at all times by its festive offices “Abanderada y Capitán” and its official representative “El Presidente”.
Until 1961 there is no written documentation of who specifically held the position of president each year, but it is known that it was distributed by Manuel Esteve “First President and Captain of the Comparsa de Piratas”, Ramón Cremades and Vicente Valero Bellot.
